How much does it cost?
It is charged by the hour with a two-hour minimum, because nobody can size a dam from a phone call. Most residential jobs land between $449 and $1,100. You get the hourly rate up front and we check in before going over what we estimated.
Can I not just chip it off myself?
Please do not. Chipping with a hammer or an axe cracks the shingles underneath, and then you have a roof repair on top of a water problem. Rock salt damages shingles, metal and the plants below.
Will it come back?
Yes, if the cause is not fixed. Ice dams are caused by heat escaping into the attic and poor ventilation — the ice is the symptom. We clear it and tell you honestly what is actually driving it. We are not insulation contractors and will not pretend otherwise.
Is this covered by insurance?
The interior water damage often is; the removal usually is not. Photograph everything and call your insurer early. We document the job either way.
